Getting the Sillies Out

With our current situation limiting the places that we can go to and the activities that we can do, we are spending the majority of our days inside the house. Being confined to the same walls for an extended amount of time can drive us insane and there is no surprise that the kiddos get a little crazy too. They want to play, run around, and make a lot of noise! In the Rabbit Burrow, there are times that the kids get a little carried away and do not have their listening ears on. During storytime or morning meetings, it is easy for the kiddos to get distracted by the toys around us. It can get loud and makes our activities last longer than expected. Instead of yelling over the noise or giving up, we usually pause our book or meeting and sing a song that gives each child a chance to get their sillies out and then have a calm body.

The song goes like this:

“Sosa! Sosa! Jump up and down! Jump up and down! Jump up and down! Sosa! Sosa! Jump up and down! Now, SIT. BACK. DOWN.”

We usually take turns saying one friend’s name at a time. Once we have given everybody a turn to jump up and down, we sing

“Everyone! Everyone! Jump up and down! Jump up and down! Jump up and down! Everyone! Everyone! Jump up and down! Now, SIT. BACK. DOWN.”

We are now able to sit with calm bodies and finish our task. We also use Party Freeze Dance by The Kiboomers to help us get the sillies out and get back to learning and playing safely.
