Abeona Values

Our Mission:

Abeona House Child Discovery Center provides exceptional childcare and early childhood education to children ages six weeks to five years.  A non-profit childcare center inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we serve families in the Greater New Orleans area from diverse backgrounds with joy, equity, and love.

As an organization, we value:

Community and make an effort to connect with our neighborhood while supporting local businesses in order to give back. We place an emphasis on lifelong learning for not only the children in our care, but the teachers and parents as well. One of the most integral aspects in our teaching is maintaining reciprocal relationships. We acknowledge the children as our equals and embrace collaboration amongst students, teachers, parents, and the community. Those inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach regard the environment as the third teacher. Our goal is to have our classrooms filled with beauty, simplicity, nature, the warmth of home, and documentation of children’s learning. This ensures that our students feel comfortable and confident enough to learn through open-ended exploration with inspiration surrounding them at every turn.

We are constantly striving to maintain socioeconomic and ethnic diversity, celebrating each family’s uniqueness and never shying away from conversations where we can openly discuss what makes each of us unique. We immensely value the individuality of children, including diversity in ability along with everything else that makes them who they are. As part of our mission to respect children, families, and teachers, we are committed to balancing livable wages and affordable tuition. Our on campus chef works hard to provide fresh, delicious food that supports a healthy foundation for lifelong nutrition. Every moment of every day we aim to inject Joie de Vivre, creating an environment that is both full of life as well as loyal to our New Orleans heritage.
